Amicalola Falls State Park {Georgia}
During our Memorial Day weekend roadtrip, we were trying to look for things the kids haven't done yet to fill the time between events. I found Amicalola Falls State Park. A waterfall! AWESOME! And it wasn't terribly far North of where we were staying. Em loves all things magical and what is more magical than a waterfall!
We planned to go early, mid morning, so we would have time to play Monster Mini Golf that afternoon. We grabbed breakfast to go and got to the falls around 10:30 am. The kids ate breakfast at one of the picnic tables right at the bottom of the waterfall. It was surprisingly cold considering we are used to 90* mornings in St Pete. It was 64* the day we were there. CRAZY! I didn't plan on the cold while we were packing up for the trip but luckily had a few small blankets in the car that the younger 2 used while walking around the park.
If you go, bring some water. It is a long hike to the top. Halfway up the 2nd level, I guess you could call it, I ended up turning around with Garrett and Em. They were almost exhausted going up. It is definitely a hike! While we walked back down, Brandon went with Ben and Tierney to the top. Tierney said she about didn't make it herself. The babies and I drove up to the top to meet up with the others. Once we were there the view was amazing to say the least. Pictures and videos can not, at all, do justice to how far up you actually are. I would suggest this for any outdoor fans and anyone with kids that have magical imaginations. Em was in awe looking over the edge. I know she could not fully understand how high up she was but she loved it!
I would love to go back to the falls once the seasons change. I could only imagine what it would be like in the middle of fall, with the crisp air and changes in colors. There is a lodge at the top of the mountain and an Inn towards the top which I want to maybe look into for another vacation. I think its something we would all definitely do again!

About the Falls:
Spectacular scenery and hiking trails make this one of Georgia’s most popular state parks. At 729 feet, Amicalola Falls is the tallest cascading waterfall in the Southeast. Visitors have choices on how to best view the tumbling waters, ranging from an accessible pathway to a challenging trail with staircases. Those who tackle the latter can join the park’s Canyon Climbers Club. An 8.5-mile trail leads from the park to Springer Mountain, the southern end of the famous 2,175-mile Appalachian Trail. Numerous other trails provide shorter day hikes.
A beautiful park. The town I grew up in has one very similar, right down to the rock waterfall!
ReplyDeleteWow, that looks like such an amazing place to spend the day with the fam. What a great place for a hike!
ReplyDeleteI would absolutely love to hike to that water fall. What a reward at the end. I'd probably do the pathway, not the stairs though. ;)

ReplyDeleteI pinned it to my See the World board in case we find ourselves in Georgia :)
ReplyDeleteOh what a beautiful trip! I love all your pictures. We have not taken my son to a waterfall yet. I'm sure he would love it. It may be a little tough to do a huge hike with him (he's not yet 2), but a smaller hike would be a lot of fun I think.
