Education #NoonDeVos

I don't follow politics probably as much as I should but I have recently been looking into the education plan and all the stuff going around about Betsy DeVos and I have to say I don't agree with her on probably everything she stands for in regards to education. I only have 2 kids left in elementary school and the older 3 are in or going into high school so I don't have as much time left to worry about education but there are generations and generations of children that need good, quality education and it needs to be made available in every location.

Below I will list some of the ways you can contact you local
The letter below was copied from the National Education Association and the ** parts are where I entered in my own personal opinions on things. Please feel free to use the letter as a template or just as a simple copy and paste and share with your local and government officials.

Dear ____________,
As a constituent, I urge you to please oppose Secretary of Education nominee Betsy DeVos, who is best known for her anti-public education campaigns.

The chance for the success of a child should not depend on winning a charter lottery, being accepted by a private school, or living in the right ZIP code. It is our duty to ensure all students have access to a great public school in their community and the opportunity to succeed. **This is particularity important to me because I live in an area where the zoned schools are not so good and these kids that dont get chosen for the better schools are just left behind. That in turn is doing nothing for these children, the teachers, or the community.

Betsy DeVos has consistently worked against these values, and her efforts over the years have done more to undermine public education than support all students.

DeVos has no experience in public schools, either as a student, educator, administrator or even as a parent. She has lobbied for failed schemes, like vouchers to fund private schools at taxpayers' expense. These privatization schemes do nothing to help our students most in need and they ignore or exacerbate glaring opportunity gaps. **In order to understand public schools, not charters or magnet programs or private, just normal zoned in your area schools, you have to have experience with the public school process. You have to understand as a parent the stress you feel when you are trying to get your child into a better school. Then alot of us have to deal with the disappointment when our child is not picked. Then what do we do? We allow their education to be less because nothing is going into these schools. Without good teachers and good support from parents and the community these failing schools get nothing. Enough to get by and push the kids into middle schools and if they are lucky they move on to high school, if they are lucky.I got lucky and have had the opportunity to homeschool my children until high school because the schools around here are just no good. Thankfully the high school my oldest 2 children are in is very good and thrives to give their students much more than other schools.

We need a Secretary of Education who will champion innovative strategies that we know help to improve success for all students, including creating more opportunities and equity for all. Betsy DeVos is not that person, and I urge you to vote against her for Secretary of Education.
 Sincerely,
_______________

Here is a post that is going around on Facebook. Please again, feel free to copy, paste, and share on all social media platforms.

The vote to confirm billionaire and completely unqualified Betsy DeVos as Sec of Education was delayed due to outpouring of resistance. (thank goodness!)
The hearing of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions will now be held at 10 a.m. Jan. 31 so that Republicans have more time to garner votes. So it's time for us to act now: Please call one of the following Republican Senators (key in the confirmation vote) to express your opposition on the appointment. At least 3 of these senators need to be convinced in order to block DeVos' nomination. Don't email. Don't tweet. Don't complain on Facebook. Please call them!
Then, PLEASE SHARE WIDELY:
If you live in one of the states represented below, PLEASE call YOUR Senator. If you don't, pick one and call him/her:
