A little about Light Spectrums: A Collection of Poetry by Jessica Fuqua
"I have chosen to release 25 poems in a novel today in celebration of World Poetry Day (March 21st), and the Spring Equinox (March 20th). The novel, "Light Spectrums" falls under both themes, as many poems in the novel are spring and nature related. The poems in "Light Spectrums" uses at least half a dozen poetry forms including Haiku's, Tanka's, Triolet's, Shadorma's, Sonnets, and Acrostics. To mention a few titles: "If My Heart Were a Flower (Reverse Haiku), "Fringe" (Haiku), "War and Phoenix" (Haiku), "Spring" (Triolet). "Purple Prisms" (Tanka), and "Escape From the Cities" (Shadorma).

I received my copy of the collection and was surprised at how easy to understand they were. I know there are alot of poems out there that just don't always make the most sense or they don't flow well. These do! Each poem is put together nicely and as a collection they are put together well. They are poems about life and easily incorporate natural elements.
I also try to add more reading options to my kids and this is a great read for them. It gave the ones that read them a chance to see how poetry can be made into different forms and isn't just a bunch of words that rhyme. It also showed them that it expressed emotions and feelings that were complex but still easy to understand.

This is a great read for poetry lovers!

I would have to say my favorites were:
"Dandelions"
 and
 "Dreams End At Dawn"
At dawn,
reality sent my dreams asunder.
The mythical creatures
giggle outside of my window.
My eyes flutter,
steadily opening to my surroundings.
The light plays upon the wall.
My dreams shift, I tuck them under my bed
– to return again at dusk.

  5. Ok...is this a stupid question...what is 'reverse haiku?' I am going to have to look that up. I used to read poetry all the time when I was a teenager..I think I'm going to have to pick up a book an anthology pretty soon.

  6. I majored in poetry in college. I know, sounds like the most boring major ever, and it was a ton of writing/ analyzing poetry, but I absolutely loved it! I still read pretty much every poem I can find the time for. Thanks for sharing!

  14. Wonderful collection of poems. I love poetry but rarely buy books on them as I tend to get them gifts. This looks like a good buy.
