Earth day movie night


On April 19th, 2014, St. Petersburg will celebrate Earth Day with its first annual festival to be held in beautiful South Straub Park. The city will join more than 190 countries, over one billion people, to commemorate the birth of the modern environmental movement that began in 1970. 

This free event will be presented by the Downtown Partnership, an organization that is focusing on the businesses that support green initiatives. The festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the primary goal of educating to create healthy, sustainable communities. Visitors can meet companies that are leading members of the green/sustainability movement and hear from speakers on current topics affecting our earth. All ages are welcome.
While this will be the first official Earth Day festival for St. Pete, the city is leading the way in Florida by implementing strategies for a sustainable future. St. Petersburg is the first city in the state to receive the Green Building Coalition's Green City designation, and has been recognized for energy conservation, recycling, water conservation, fuel efficiency, landscaping and preservation of open spaces, and other environmental programs.Proceeds from the event will benefit Blue Ocean Film Festival which shares films that inspire people to help protect our oceans and the life they sustain.
