4 Simple Ways To Save Money

Summer is right around the corner. Summer for most if usually full of traveling.
Holidays are not too far off. That means alot of gift buying.

All of that means alot of money spending. I know for us it does anyways. I am usually pretty good about keeping us on a budget but my husband, not so much.
So how do we save money?

Well first off I get just about all the money that comes in from my husband working. One person keeping track of everything is much easier than two. I know what comes in, what needs to be paid, and what goes out. It makes it simpler to budget out when everything is in front of you and you don't have to wait for the other person to give their numbers.

Any money I make from blogging stays untouched. Some months I will have a couple hundred, other months it is like $25. It just depends on how many things I have going on. I do get giftcards for some collaborations so I just keep them aside too. When it comes time to order a new headset for a roadtrip or buy a Black Friday gift those extra funds are nice to use. If you are not a blogger and you aren't working from home you can earn a little here and there by having a yard sale or picking up things on Craigslist. You can re-purpose and resell alot of stuff on there. There are surveys online you can do also to earn giftcards.

I don't impulse buy. I used to but then I realized I didn't not really need the stuff and using money for vacations is much better than using it on something we did not really need. If you are in the store and want to buy something on impulse walk around the store a few times with it. Think about what you want it for, what you need it for, and what you are getting out of buying it. Eventually, if you are like me, you will put it back. There are a few things I still buy every now and again, but most of it is for the house.

Product DetailsEach kid has a piggy bank. They each throw money in it whenever they have it. I put money into it whenever I am near one of them and have something in my pocket. Its not always alot, sometimes its a few pennies in Emmaleighs piggy, sometimes its $5 in Garretts robot bank, and whatever. There is no set rule to what goes into what bank. Then once a month they get to cash them out and put it into their actual savings account. I believe last month Emmaleigh had the most with $148, Garrett was next with $78 and Tierney with $76. Whatever they have they get to keep though. And they don't spend it unless they really want something we don't want to buy, which rarely happens.

  1. I keep my blogging money aside, too. It pays for all of our family vacations :)

  2. Wow, the kids have managed to save quite a bit. Whenever my kids have some money in their piggy banks they are itching to spend it. They didn't get that from me!

  3. I do a pretty good job with not impulse buying. I always get buyers remorse when I get something that I don't need. I think it helps that we live in a small space. If I leave a store and I'm still thinking about whatever the item was later on then I'll go back and get it.

  5. Bernadette, I agree that one person taking care of things is better. The idea of giving your kids a piggy bank is a good one. We gave all of our grandkids a piggy bank for their first Christmas. I keep all of my change each night in a container on my bathroom counter. When it gets full, we separate it into four equal parts and give it to the grandkids. My sons let them use this money to buy action figures, video games and etc. It teaches them about money.

  6. The money I make pretty much serves as our savings. It is great to have a little nest egg set aside.

  7. I loved my piggy bank from childhood and loved watching my savings grow. Not its more online than actual piggy bank with doing my savings. I try to move a certain amount set each month from my checking to my savings. That's how I add to my virtual piggy bank.
