We Finally Went To See The Jungle Book

Garrett's birthday was on May 2nd and part of his present was a movie night during his birthday week. We let him choose between Zootopia, Ratchet and Clank, or The Jungle Book. He chose The Jungle Book!
We have all seen the original movie so we were assuming we knew what we were in for. The new Jungle Book is a remake of the original it was so much more than I expected. It was very accurate to the story-line but much more real.

The story begins with Mowgli being chased through the woods. The story itself is much like the original. Mowgli was found alone in the jungle as a baby, he was taken by the wolves and raised as one. The amazing visuals and opening scenes really show you how life like and huge the jungle really is. The animals blend in perfectly and once they start to talk and walk along with Mowgli it is hard to tell that they are not real. The work is not overly done at all, which I really enjoyed. You don't really pay too much attention to the talking animal aspect of the movie as you do the actual story. As the movie goes on, you realize that Mowgli does not know of anything other than his life in the jungle and his family of wolves. Although he was raised a man cub, he does not realize that he is really different. He is unaware of the potential danger of continuing his life in the jungle due to the threat from Shere Khan, a tiger that seems to be similar to Scar from The Lion King. After much discussion among the wolves, Mowgli decides to leave the village, to go back to where he came from and the panther Bagheera is with him every step of the way, almost... as the journey goes on..... Mowgli is threatened by a snake -Kaa, makes friends with a bear -Balo, and attacked by a giant ape - Kind Louie. All of this in sync with the original animated movie but so much more real.
As I was watching the movie, from the very beginning, I kept thinking how amazing this little actor (Neel Sethiwas. To be able to talk and walk amongst these creatures and for the viewer to realize they weren't actually there. The performance was seamless. It was amazing!

While watching the movie I could not help but think how awesome it was to have a Disney movies that I watched as a kid with my mom and enjoyed with my children as they were younger, be made into movies we grew in to. I love that these classic movies, these classic animated movies, can be transformed into lifelike movies we can watch over and over.

Oh My Disney has 9 Things Disney Fans Need To Know About The Jungle Book, according to Jon Favreau. Like #2: At the end of the castle logo shot, the camera pulls back and goes through the lush foliage of the jungle. It turns out that this was a moment borrowed from another Disney animated classic. “We transition into the photo-real by the end of the shot, and then we borrowed that shot from Bambi,” Favreau said.

The original Jungle Book was made in 1967, and for a limited time if you order the original on Amazon you get a $7.50 credit towards The Jungle Book 2. While you are there, you can pre-order The Jungle Book now on Amazon
