So Easy To Take Now For Granted

Do you ever get caught up in day to day? Just one day turns into the next, into the next, and months go by.  The hours seem to go so quickly and we just don't stop to pay attention to where we are. Not a minute to realize what we have right now.
My stop and realize moment was earlier today. It was about 4pm and I was debating on taking the kids to the beach or to just stay home and wait for the rest of the weekend to flow on by. I posted on Facebook to go or not and so many commented on how lucky we are to have that option, or always to the beach was the best answer. And you know what, they are right.

So many save up for years to vacation here for a week and we get to live here. I will admit we live in a not so good part of town but we can literally say "lets go to the beach," and in under 5 minutes we are in the car and at the beach. Less than 5 minutes the shades of blue we have grown so accustomed to are something not everyone has the option to do.

There is always something new to discover at the beach, whether its a buried shell in the sand or a sand dollar just offshore. Maybe its a crab that runs across the kids toes or a seahorse floating by as they are exploring the oceans. There really is a whole world to explore at the beach and it is ever changing. And I know my kids take all this sand and salty air for granted as well. Trying to teach them lessons in life include things like this, things I often forget myself.
We always talk about what it would be like to live in the mountains somewhere, maybe in the Carolinas and I am sure if we moved to the mountains I would have the same love of the view and the air up there. But I am a Florida girl and even when we are in the Disney area for the day I feel landlocked. I look for the waters to know what direction I am going in. We go to the beach when we are looking for something to do. We go to the beach when we want to collect shells. We go to spend a few minutes or a few hours because it as relaxing as it is adventurous.

Do you often take where you live for granted?

  4. You sure are lucky! I'm more of a mountain person myself but I wouldn't complain about living at the beach! We are only 1.5 hours away so it's not too bad to get there and I'm thankful for that!

  5. Everything has a reason. You were so lucky that you live near a beach where everyone wishes to stay there for long. The more often we see the things around us, the more they become invisible to us. That is why we already don't appreciate the blessings that God has given to us. Life is short, you should know how to cherish and always have gratitude for all the things around us.

  6. I think I probably do. I'm in San Antonio and I should be exploring the history, but I really haven't done this. I need to!

  8. Oh, I'd love to live 5 minutes from the beach! It sounds like a dream to me! I completely understand that it's probably not as exciting when you actually live there, though. :)

  9. So beautiful. My sister lives on an island and she talks about the same things. I visited her in November (the start of winter here in Maryland) and wondered the same thing, "How long would it take for me to be here until I got used to it, until it didn't affect me quite like it does right now?" It's interesting to think but it happens to us all. I'm so glad you and your children got to enjoy the day together and you were able to shift your perspective that day!! Enjoy some vitamin sea for me, too! Xo
