Mending Series #LocalEvents

Tierney has decided she wants to get into fashion, not just any fashion....upcycling. We all know what that is....taking something used and making into something new. I have searched Pinterest for some ideas, of course there are a ton! She has been on there also and is going to make a few dress forms this week. She has a bunch of ideas pinned on getting started too. I am hoping this is something that can and will grow with her. There are so many options for the future if it is really something she wants and likes to do. I am also going to Ikea with her to get her a few of the dress forms they have there and some organization stuff for her room. I know we will leave there with much more but that goes without being said really.

I know that we are going to have to stock her up on fabrics, buttons, ribbons, and whatever else she can think of and find. I originally found a store in Downtown Tampa called The Upcycle Trading Company and lucky for us they have moved to Downtown St Pete. FATE since we moved over here as well! While roaming around on the site I found a great opportunity for her....its called: Mending Series! Another FATE because it starts February 27th and runs for 8 weeks so hopefully she will be able to attend each week. I will have to go with her but at least there is somewhere she can go and learn all the crafty stuff I don't know how to do, sewing has never been my thing. For $10 per class I am all for it. If it is something she likes then I will support her and what she wants to do.
The store is actually pretty awesome too....if you are out and about in the area. As far as I understand, most of the items they have for sale are donated. The first time we were in there (they were in Ybor in Tampa), we filled a box and spent like $20. Not bad at all because we were able to pick and choose what we wanted. We had fabrics, markers, papers, and misc crafty items.

Check the site or Facebook for anything new or different.

This is from the site: Every Saturday and Sunday we are hosting a $25 Fill A Bag Sale on our Pay As Your Wish inventory. (textiles, knitting, crochet, trims, notions, scrapbooking, magazines, paper, pattern, and more)

  1. That sounds so neat! I go the other way & take old clothes to upcycle them into toys for the kids. :)

  2. Oh man - I would love a class like that. When I took a sewing class years ago, it was more about how to use the machine. I kept saying I wanted to learn how to fix things. Don't get me wrong - I learned a great deal and still love sewing. But could still use some help with mending.
